City Names 12 Buildings To Historic List

Today the mayor handed out historic status to a dozen city buildings.

The owners of the historical landmarks joined Mayor Dixon and other city officials for the signing of ceremony at the in the city hall rotunda.

Included on the list are the Scottish Rite Temple, Nazarene Baptist Church,
Four Bay House, The Melvin Cade Armory and Harford Commons, St. Paul
Community Baptist Church, Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, St. Marks
Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Raffel
Building, Dr. Giering House and Castalia.

The city says these landmarks are Baltimore jewels and all tell unique
stories about the city and the people who built them.

"Landmarks really define the character of Baltimore and put the charm in Baltimore city and I feel that in this recession environment values are shifting in America and people are going to be more appreciative of their history." Historic preservation Commission chairman Tyler Gearhart says.

These 12 new sites join a list of more than 11 thousand historically designated buildings in Baltimore city.
